A look back on a busy year for our Under 10s!

U10s Rugby sees the introduction of the Ruck, the Maul and a 3 man scrum, which additional to the U9s game which is pretty much Rugby league, the game starts to definitely take more ‘real’ Rugby union shape, some tough work for the coaches, even tougher for the kids!

The season started for the U10s as the last season had ended with a real test as the team took part in a festival at Barnard Castle school, The Clegg Cup, in which the team set a high bar for the rest of the season by winning 6 out of 8 games against very well drilled opposition.

As with the rest of the minis, games are played fortnightly, with training every other Sunday. The U10s showed extra determination by agreeing to train every other Wednesday as well, this seemed to show as the DMP U10s became the team to beat in the region. It is a credit to every player on the team that at the end of almost every game the opposition coaches would ask questions on how the team have managed to get so well drilled.

Every game seemed to be enjoyed by all and the team seemed to improve with every game.

A stand out performance against Sunderland on a very wet day at home summed up the spirit of the team as they dug deep after conceding 5 un-answered tries to a well drilled and sizeable Sunderland team to come back with several unanswered tries of their own! We certainly look forward to the return fixture next year.

Another great weekend in the calendar is the trip to Newcastle Falcons for the age grade festival followed by taking in a Falcons game. As with the majority of the season, it rained all day, but this didn’t deter the U10s (who had taken 2 teams) and played with smiles on their faces all day, again, coaches and players from outside our region were left wondering what we had been feeding these warriors!!!

Unfortunately, we said goodbye to a couple of players, some moving on to pastures new, who we wish all the best at their new clubs, some who have decided on a break from rugby for a while. For all, we wish you all the best and you will always be a part of the Mowden family.

On a good note, this season has also seen some new players come to the team, every one of them have made a positive impact and seem like they have been playing for years! Absolutely great to have them on board and hope to see some more faces next year!

Next season sees a few additional rules applied to our game as we move to dominate the region at U11s, one things for sure, this is a team to keep your eyes on!

Everyone from the U10s wishes everyone all the best for the summer and looks forward to the coming season!!
