It was a pleasure to welcome Stockton back to the Arena on Sunday 20 March.
Blessed with yet another fine spring morning and with Stockton on a roll of 5 wins on the trot the stage was set for a good match.
We started strongly putting Stockton on the back foot for the first 10 mins, our backs cutting through their defence Szymon and Ethan notching up points, the forwards with George at scrum half winning the rucks.
Stockton fought their way back into the game balancing the score board at half time.
They started strongly after the break and it was Mowden under pressure. Stockton got a quick try and nosed ahead. Coming to the restart, moral seemed to be slipping, then the voice of determination was heard: Tom McCue urging Mowden to follow up the kick. Not the words of a wannabee captain but an affirmation of intent. The kick was cleanly caught, well in the Stockton 22 and Tom was there tackling the receiver and liberating the ball to a charging Kieran Kelly who was over the line before the bulk of the opposition had time to react.
Mowden’s ship steadied, the game ebbed and flowed to six each at the final whistle.
Cheers Simon.
