Mowden u13s (91) vs Sunderland u13s (5)
Sunday 10th Jan.
Northern Echo Arena.
First a massive thankyou to Sunderland RFC u13s who travelled to Mowden Park after their own pitches became unplayable due to the recent weather.
Secondly thanks goes again to the parents and supporters who braced the conditions to bring the players along and support them.
Mowden u13s enjoyed a good run out against a spirited Sunderland team. Both teams played some good rugby and it was clear to see that Sunderland had worked hard on the set piece and more than held their own.
It was great to see Mowden hadn’t forgotton too many of their core skills over the Christmas break and they continued to put into practice the ethos of each player doing their own job.
Open play was where Mowden had the upper hand, with the forwards running hard and the backs finishing the move with a try.
Despite the comfortable win Mowden must work harder on the first up tackles to ensure opposition attacks are thwarted early on and not having to rely on a scramble defence.
Most pleasing was to see the whole squad developing and improving. With different player combinations and partnerships, not only did it give the coaches options but also helped to develop the lads to become better all-round players rather than position specific based.
Well done lads on a good performance, get ready for more tackling practice over the coming weeks!!!
