The U13s attended a festival organized by Barnard Castle RFC and hosted at Barnard Castle School (nice place!).
Played as a series of pool games rather than a knockout, this ensured that all teams had plenty game time.
Our first series of matches saw us play Upper Eden, which we won 15-0, with tries from Harry, Charlie and Aiden. We then played Driffield who we beat convincingly, with tries from Josh(2), Innes, Charlie and a conversion from Kyrran.
Moving onto the next stage of the tournament, the teams were divided in to three new pools consisting of one pool with all the winners, one with all the runners up and one with all the third placed teams. We went into the pool with all the winners which meant we would be up against some sterner opposition.
The next game was against our old adversaries Barnard Castle, a hard game which we won 7-5 thanks to a try by Josh and a vital conversion by Charlie. We then played Wetherby which we unfortunately lost 12-7, with a try from Josh and a conversion by Oliver, it just wasn't quite enough. Finally we played Roundhegians, who we beat 26-0 with tries by Aiden(2), Charlie and Josh with 3 conversions from Oliver.
With the tournament being decided on points, we ended up second overall to the winners Wetherby - the only team to beat us.
It was a fine day for rugby, with our players excelling themselves against some good teams.
Congratulations to all the players, the reserves, the other players that didn't make the squad this time, the coaches and finally the fantastic parents and supporters who shouted and cheered (politely!) all afternoon!
