Sunday 13th December 2009 Sunderland RFC 3 - 38 Mowden Park RFC

RED LETTER DAY FOR THE U10’s AS THEY CONTINUE THEIR UNBEATEN FRIENDLY FORM THIS SEASON

Today was the day that the U10’s came of age with a resounding 38 – 3 win away to Sunderland (that is 38 tries to 3).
The entire squad of 13 were involved in these rolling 4 x 15 minute sessions of rugby. The win was achieved with ferocious tackling from the outset which prevented Sunderland gaining any initial possession and from that point the forwards drove through Cameron Kent, Ned Butterfield and Theo Colley scoring the first try.
Mowden Park quickly established an 8 – 0 lead with flowing rugby and clean passing and from that point Mowden Park never looked back. Good backs play by Sunderland brought the game back to 8 – 2 but that only served to drive Mowden Park onwards again with great forwards and backs link play, running and passing rugby and continued ferocious tackling. This time it was good to see unselfish play with players passing to each other, support play between backs and using the full width of the pitch. Special mention goes to Jack Tweedy for his first try of the season (the 25th) Tom Leeming for his first try for the club and Harry Yarrow, Sam Anderson, Tom Leeming, Dominick Russell and Andrew Bain for solid tackling on the wings and in the centre and of course the Swinbanks/Miller/Price/Lush backs combination who between them scored 29 tries.
The day would not be complete without summarising the tries scored - in order Theo Colley (4), William Swinbank (9), Andrew Miller (7), Toby Lush (3), Matthew Price (10), Tom Leeming (1), Dominick Russell (1), Andrew Bain (1), Ned Butterfield (1) and Jack Tweedy (1).
Finally we would like to congratulate Sunderland for the great effort their team put in – not once did their heads drop and they scored some good team tries.
Overall a great result but still plenty of work to do in training.
