A good win at Percy Park

On the road again for the U13’s with a large squad once again to create headaches for all the coaching staff. With warning of a storm coming the game started with a very strong wind that Mowden used to their advantage with full back Max Pepper kicking deep into the Percy Park half.
After working on the forwards with rucking and scrum formation the lads put on a great performance against a big Percy Park pack. Number 8 Adam Brown picked up from the back of the scrum and showed his strength in running allowing him to cross the line twice, one in each half of the game. Scrummaging was excellent with Liam, Ben and Rob all showing good technique.
With the wind shortening the passes in the backs the guys struggled a bit but with Max Pepper coming into the line allowed him to break tackles and get his name on the scorecard.
Percy Park gave the lads a contest at the ruck and maul – which allowed them to pass the ball out to their big centre who managed to score and cause hassle for our backs.
A complete team effort put Dan Edwards in the corner for his first ever try for the team which put a smile on the coach’s faces as Dan has improved this season and more than deserves it.
Coming on late in the game our speed machine Rory “Wheezy” Anderson managed to run right round the opposition backs to score a great try that started in our half of the pitch.
Only one successful conversion today by Big Jim Robinson, something we need to work on although the weather didn’t help.
Once the lads got up to speed the team worked well and had some structure, we don’t like singling out a man of the match but today one guy stood out with his courageous tackling and all round play including winning many scrums against the head – Tomas Nicholson, well done !! Archie Dalton made his debut in the forwards after and was straight in the thick of the action.
Guisborough away is our next fixture and let’s hope we continue to build on the great play and attitude that I know we are capable of demonstrating.
The next round of the County Cup is looming and there are difficult selection decisions to be made. It’s all to be played for.
Thanks to Percy Park for their kind hospitality and superb sausages.

The scorers were;
Adam Brown - 2 tries - 2 sensitive bruises - 1 falseto voice
Rory Anderson - 1 try
Max Pepper - 1 try
Dan Edwards - 1 try
Big Jim Robbo - 1 conversion.
