DMP claim overall 6th place in first X7s tournament

Sunday saw the team's last action as Under 14s in the SG Petch X7s tournament held at the club as part of the Rolands Ride event.

DMP were drawn in a tough group with Tynedale, Northern and Stockton.

DMP v Tynedale.
With no X7s experience it was a trial by fire against Tynedale. Despite this DMP got of to a strong start with the teams looking very even. Eventually Tynedale were able to move the ball out wide and scored in the corner to go 1-0. The following kick off was then ran back in to give the visitors a 2-0 need.
The game continued to move at an electric pace and just before half-time Tyndale went 3-0.
The second half saw a DMP response with Harvey Wood crashing over for his first ever DMP try. 3-1
Tynedale showed their skills to cross twice more making the final score 5-1, however this was not an accurate reflect of the match.
DMP 1-5 Tynedale

DMP v Northern
Having recently lost heavily to Northern this was a chance for revenge for DMP. Sadly they were not able to take that chance. Northern used their great passing skills to move the ball around and went into half time leading 2-0. DMP had created chances but weren't able to get over the line.
A third try for Northern in the second half saw the game put out of reach, before Joe Frizzell-Shackley dropped on a loose ball to score and give DMP hope. Northern replied with forth try to close out the game.
DMP 1-4 Northern

DMP v Stockton
DMP now faced Stockton in a match to finish 3rd in the group. After two insanely close games during the season the game was always going to be close.
Stockton opened up the scoring after some loose defence from DMP to go ahead 1-0. DMP responded when Max Graham found the edge and was able to run in from half way to level things up. 1-1.
DMP then took the lead when Max Graham again showed the Stockton defence the after burners. 2-1 DMP.
The game looked to be done, when Graham completed his hat-trick again leaving the Stockton defence in his wake. 3-1 DMP.
Stockton responded with a minute to go to make the score 3-2 however DMP held on to claim the win and 3rd place in the group.
DMP 3-2 Stockton

DMP v Hartlepool (5t Place Playoff)
The 3rd place teams met in the stadium playing for an overall 5th place finish. Hartlepool had beaten DMP earlier in the season in a bad tempered affair.
Poor defending from the opening kick off saw Hartlepool go over to score and take a 1-0 lead.
DMP responded well and were playing the much better rugby, before Graham went over over to level things up 1-1
A good passing move saw Carlon crash over for 201 DMP lead.
A try against the run of play saw Hartlepool go into the lead on the stroke of half time in what turned out to be a shortened first half.
Carlon then went over again from the restart to give DMP 3-2 at the start of the second half.
The game was looking to be safe with DMP dominating, but a good Hartlepool move saw them equalise with moments left 3-3.
From the restart DMP had a pass intercepted which was ran back to give Hartlepool a 4-3 lead.
Hartlepool were then able to old DMP's final attack to claim 5th place, leaving DMP in 6th.
DMP 3 v 4Hartlepool

Overall this was a good day out in glorious sunshine and was a nice way to end what has been an overall successful season.
