The final match of the season saw DMP make the long trip to Northern, a team founded on a number of Private schools in the area.
Northern came flying out of the gates scoring the first of their 8 first half tries after just 2 minutes.
The huge score discrepancy, was not a fair reflection of the gap between the teams. No doubt were Northern were the better side, but they the were also the beneficiaries of a number of confusing refereeing decisions.
Half time
Northern RFC 46-0 DMP
To their credit DMP kept their heads up and scored first in the second half, with Graham showing a clean pair of heels to the Northern defence to touch down in the corner. 46-5 (conversion missed)
Northern replied with 2 more tries to extend their to 56-5
Tempers flared and DMP again raised their game with Graham bursting through the Northern defence to cross the line for the second time. 56-10 (conversion missed)
Northern had the final say crossing again on the final play of the game. 63-10 (converted)
Final Score
Northern RFC 63-10 Darlington Mowden Park
This was our heaviest defeat of the season, but this was due to a disastrous first half. The second half was much fairer reflection of the game with Northern edging it 3 tries to 2.
The difference in this match was Northern’s ability to move the ball wide time and again. As with the Durham match this is something we as team must replicate to improve and begin to beat teams of Northern’s standard.
