1st Half
Early Blaydon pressure saw a 5m scrum, from which the ball was forced over, 0-7. Soon afterwards good Blaydon passing saw us trail 0-14. At this point we came back into the game and both Kieran and Abdullah came close to replying for DMP, but strong last ditch tackling by Blaydon saw us remain pointless. Further Blaydon pressure made it 0-19, and from the kick off they again created space to score the final points of the half, 0-24.
Half Time 0-24
2nd Half
The half started brighter for DMP and we had possession for a good couple of minutes, but unfortunately the blustery conditions contributed to our conceding further tries. Firstly a clearance kick got blown behind our lines and Blaydon reacted quicker 0-31. The ensuing kick off went no where and Blaydon broke from the ensuing scrum to lead 0-36. Another scrum saw another Blaydon try 0-43.
The next period of play was more even, and saw us get on the scoreboard. A good break by Ethan, set James P clear and he crossed the line, only for a defender to knock the ball out. However, good backing up by Ollie allowed him to get the vital touch to claim the try. Matt launched a great attempted conversion, which was carried just wide by the wind.
Unfortunately another Blaydon scrum saw them break to make the score 5-50. From the kick off they managed to find their way through for a final time 5-57.
Blaydon were certainly the better side today. They handled the blustery conditions well and almost everything they did came off and resulted in a try. Our boys never gave up and their determination and effort is clear to see in the photographs on the teams Facebook page. Todays game also showed the ever growing size and quality of our squad. We had four players making their seasonal debuts, namely Dylan B, Louis, James P and Jack Hawkins and they all showed they have plenty to offer the team going forward.
