Today saw a strong determined Mowden team storm on to the pitch with their sights set firmly on bringing home the County plate.
Matthew Wray set the ball rolling with the first Mowden try after picking it up from the base of a ruck and swiftly side stepping 3 of Sunderland's defenders. A well deserved try, followed by Dan Sanderson who took the ball from the back of the scrum and charged through the Sunderland defence to score Mowden's second try in the first 15 minutes of the game. The momentum continued with James Dryburgh taking the ball (as well as several opposition players who hung on for the ride) over the try line for a third try. Sam Field superbly converted all 3 tries taking Mowden into the second half 21 points ahead.
Sunderland's half time team talk obviously had an effect and they came onto the pitch seeking revenge. Mowden defended extremely well but conceded 3 tries, one of which was converted making the score 21-17. Mowden kept their heads up despite the numerous penalties being awarded against them. The forwards held their own against a much heavier pack and the combination of Dan Garvey and Josh Human added a new dimension to the backs.
The team were justly rewarded by Angus Ferguson who scored a magnificent 4th try for Mowden after taking the ball from Matty Wray, swiftly switching to the blind side and running half the length of the pitch whilst handing off several defenders. A well deserved try bringing Mowden's tally to 26. Sunderland managed a further try but were unable to convert bringing the closing score to Mowden 26 - 22 Sunderland.
A big thank you and well done to the whole of the U15 squad. Your efforts this season are reaping rewards!!
