The hosts took the lead after 5 minutes when Sale winger Tom Walsh made a break before finding Tom Brady on the ring flank to score the opening try. A high tackle on DMP fly half Oscar Yandall gave the visitors a chance to close the gap, but his penalty drifted narrowly wide. Mowden grew into the game and enjoyed the bulk of the territory before Sale showed their cutting edge to extend the lead through centre Fergus Mulchrone. There was still time for another Sale try in controversial fashion, as Stone Priestley-Nangle stole the ball from the back of a ruck and dived over from close range. Half time score 19-0.
Sale started the second half on the front foot, as a brace of tries from full back Joe Carpenter pulled them further clear. Mowden responded well though, and got themselves on the board through George Shannon who found a gap in the Sale defence to race over from 30m out. Yandall converted, before DMP doubled their tally soon after. A smart line from Joe Craggs saw the back row break into the Sale 22, before finding Euan McKirdy on his inside to sprint over for the try. A yellow for Andrew Hughes gave Mowden hope of a losing bonus point, but despite their late pressure it was the hosts who scored last as Carpenter latched on to a midfield interception to dot down for his hat-trick.
Mowden will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Saturday when they travel to Leeds Tykes in a 3pm kick off. Stay tuned for more on Saturday's game including team news and match previews.
