It was a game that had an end of season feel, with both sides running the ball from deep to contribute to an entertaining contest. Mowden had the better of the early stages, and took the lead after some smart work from Callum Pascoe saw the scrum half dive over in the corner. Louie Johnson converted, before Rosslyn replied with a driving maul finished by Isaac Miller. An open first half continued when Johnson ghosted through the Rosslyn defence to dot down, before adding a penalty minutes later to stretch the DMP lead to 12. The visitors responded well though, and Archie Hosking powered over with Yaree Fantini in the sin bin to draw Rosslyn within 7. Mowden almost restored the 12 point gap after a scintillating break from Nathan Greenwood, but the attack came to nothing as DMP went into the interval 17-12 ahead.
The end-to-end nature of the game continued in the second half, with Luc Smith scoring under the posts to give the visitors their first lead of the afternoon. A Johnson penalty put Mowden back in front, before a key spell which swung the momentum towards the visitors. First Sam Kyle-Clay was deemed to enter a ruck dangerously and shown yellow, with Rosslyn again showing their cutting edge as Matt Gordon scored out wide. Another penalty from Johnson kept the scores tight, but again Rosslyn were clinical as Tom Stanton broke a tackle to score their 5th of the day. Smith's conversion took their lead to 8, as the game appeared to get away from DMP heading into the final stages. Mowden responded in typical fashion however, and Craig Stevenson was shown yellow after dragging down Pascoe just short of the line and slowing the ball illegally. Greenwood dived over in the corner to set up a grandstand finish, with Johnson's conversion bringing Mowden within 1. Just as it looked like Mowden had the momentum, a Benji Marfo try took the visitors clear yet again and helped them see out a bonus point win in Round 22.
Joe Craggs was awarded Man of the Match honours after a typically tireless performance, and Mowden will take the positives from another impressive attacking display against a strong Rosslyn Park side.
Mowden now travel to Taunton on Saturday in Round 23, before returning to the Arena on Saturday 6th April when they take on Bishop's Stortford. Tickets are available to buy online by clicking here.
