A hat trick from Harry Yates helped Mowden Park to their third consecutive home win in their rearranged Round 16 clash with Blackheath.

It was the visitors who took an early lead through the boot of Matt Dalrymple, but Mowden soon hit their stride as Harry Yates broke through the Blackheath defence to dive over under the posts. Yates was heavily involved in Mowden's second, breaking clear on the right before finding Obe Ene who weaved his way over from 40m out. Blackheath hit back through fullback Alex Noot who dived over in the corner, before the two sides exchanged penalties for Mowden to lead 17-13 at the break.

A second penalty of the afternoon for Callum Pascoe edged Mowden further clear, but they were soon reduced to 14 men as Alfie Barron was shown yellow for collapsing a Blackheath maul. Mowden defended brilliantly with a man down, with lineout steals from Will Jones and Joe Craggs holding the visitors at bay. Their pressure eventually told, with Tom Stradwick burrowing over from close range on the 50 minute mark. Dalrymple converted to draw the scores level, and the Blackheath 10 then missed a chance to edge his side ahead minutes later. Mowden were soon restored to 15, and Pascoe slotted another penalty to give the hosts a narrow lead at the hour mark. The next score would prove decisive, and it was Mowden who got it with arguably the try of the game moments after the restart. A barnstorming run from Oscar Usher took play into the Blackheath half, before Pascoe found Ene with a pinpoint crossfield kick which saw the winger sprint clear for his second. A second for Yates soon followed to ease the nerves of the home supporters and give Mowden the all important four try bonus point. Pascoe converted brilliantly from the touchline on another impressive display off the tee, before Yates rounded off his hat-trick by crashing over after a strong carry from Yaree Fantini. Blackheath continued to battle to get something from the game, and a late Matt Armstrong try kept their hopes of a bonus point alive. It was Mowden who finished on the front foot however, with Shae Tucker sent to the bin for a deliberate knock on in the final play of the game.

Obi Ene was awarded Man of the Match honours for an eye-catching display on his first home start. DMP will be delighted to take maximum points against a very strong Blackheath side, in a game that was very much in the balance at the hour mark.

Blackheath now travel to Cinderford next weekend, while Mowden face their second home game in as many weeks as they take on Richmond in Round 18. Tickets for the Richmond game are available to buy online by clicking here.
