A frustrating afternoon at the Arena saw Plymouth Albion take maximum points from their long trip to the North East.

A late Craig Duncan try saw Albion take all 5 points, whilst also denying Mowden anything from the game.

The visitors made a flying start to the game, and crossed for an early try courtesy of Ramaz Rukhadze. Mowden had chances to hit back, and eventually narrowed the gap after a penalty from the boot of Ree. The hosts enjoyed the better of the first half possession, but failed to capitalise as the Albion defence continued to frustrate Garry Law's side. Plymouth finished the half with another try courtesy of Dan Collier. Former DMP man Tom Putt converted both first half scores, to make the score 3-14 at the break.

After a cagey start to the second half it was Mowden who struck next, with a breakaway try scored and converted by Ree after stellar work from Callum Pascoe and Ollie Hodgson. With the Albion lead cut to 4 the next score would prove crucial, and it was the away side who got it after a brilliant individual effort from Jack Oulton. Putt then added a further penalty to take Albion 12 clear. Mowden continued to chase the game, and Plymouth were reduced to 14 for the final 10 minutes after failing to retreat from a quick tap and go. After more sustained pressure a try from Charlie Smith kept hopes of a home win alive. With the clock in the red the hosts went after another unlikely last minute win, but Craig Duncan pounced on a loose ball to clinch Plymouth’s 4th try and take away Mowden’s losing bonus point.

Mowden will be looking to bounce back when they visit Richmond next weekend in Round 6, before returning to the Arena on Saturday 14th October against Birmingham Moseley. Please note the Moseley fixture kicks off at the earlier time of 2.15pm.
