The home side opened the scoring early on through Leo Fielding, before a brilliant individual try from Henry Hadfield levelled things up minutes later. Josh Ree edged DMP ahead with the conversion, before adding a penalty to stretch Mowden's lead to 5. The hosts hit back through a James Catt try, before the two sides exchanged penalties to go into the break at 15-13.
A cagey start to the second half saw no change to the score for the first 20 minutes. Mowden had chances to pull themselves ahead, but a missed penalty and a disallowed try were followed by a Steve Leonard score on the hour mark. Blackheath's bonus point try followed soon after when Jake Lloyd dived over, giving the home side a 16 point lead. DMP thought they'd got themselves back into the game when Joe Craggs dotted down, but play was called back for a forward pass just metres from the line. As Mowden continued to chase the game it was Blackheath who finished strongest, with late tries Tom Baldwin and Ollie Walliker sealing a third win of the season for James Shanahan's side.
A tough day at the office for DMP, who will be frustrated that the game got away from them in the final quarter. Mowden will be looking to bounce back this weekend when they host Plymouth at the Darlington Arena. Tickets are available online by clicking here.
