After an end-to-end opening 10 minutes, it was DMP who opened the scoring at Old Bath Road. A 50-22 from the boot of Matt Minogue gave Mowden good field position, before good handling from the backs released Ollie Walker who sprinted over out wide. They came close to doubling their lead soon after, however a Rams interception halted DMP's progress before lively scrum half Ollie Cole raced away from a quick tap on half way. Mowden were then reduced to 14 men as Josh Crickmay was shown red for a dangerous tackle. The remainder of the first half was largely dominated by the hosts, with Connor Hayhow crossing for a brace of tries to make the score 19-5 at the break.
Rams wrapped up the bonus point early in the second half, with Jak Rossiter diving over from close range. A fifth soon followed through Vince Everitt, and it looked the game could get away from DMP with over half an hour still to play. To their credit though, 14 man Mowden responded brilliantly and enjoyed the better of the final 30 minutes. First Ali Ledingham doubled the DMP double, throwing a dummy to dive over in the corner after a break from Ollie Walker. After a brace of scrum penalties DMP thought they had their third when Ledingham found Joe Craggs out wide, however play was called back for a forward pass. Despite their numerical disadvantage Mowden continued to press for a 4 try bonus point, before Rams crossed for their sixth with Hayhow completing his hat trick. DMP's third try came late on through debutant Connor Fitzsimons, but there was no time for a fourth as Mowden came away empty handed.
Mowden now head into a rest weekend, before welcoming Rosslyn Park to the Arena on Saturday 15th October.
