Following an impeccably observed minute’s silence, Mowden opened the scoring after 10 minutes when Morgan Passman scythed through the visiting defence to score under the posts. The Mowden winger would then leave the field with a minor injury picked up in the scoring run, but this didn’t top DMP’s momentum as Yaree Fantini profited from a strong driving maul to dive over out wide. Taunton responded well, and arguably enjoyed the best of the remainder of the first 40. A Iwan Jenkins penalty got the Titans on the board, before skipper Charlie Wright dotted down off the back of a catch and drive. Wright’s try narrowed the gap to 4, but DMP showed their cutting edge to extend the lead to 11 at the break. Man of the Match Liam Checksfield was the scorer, after stepping inside the Taunton defence to dive over on the left. Matt Minogue converted two of Mowden’s three first half tries to take the score to 19-8 at the interval.
Mowden picked up where they left off in the second half, with Checksfield crossing for the bonus point try a matter of minutes after the break. Taunton continued to look dangerous, but Mowden’s back row of Fantini, Jones and Hodgson won a number of key turnovers to keep the visitors at bay. DMP extended their lead through Fantini on the hour mark, before Taunton hit back through replacement hooker Chris Francis soon after as their driving maul again showed its strength. A frantic final 15 saw chances for both sides, but Mowden finished strongly and crossed for a sixth try when Ollie Walker sprinted clear to score under the posts.
Both sides now enjoy a well-earned rest weekend, before Mowden return to league action with a trip to Sale FC on Saturday 26th November in Round 11.
