WORCESTER VALKYRIES 36 – 13 DMP SHARKS

Robert Logan17 Oct 2016 - 11:13

Sharks made the long trip down to Worcester’s Sixways Stadium anticipating a tough encounter with their South West opposition.

Despite a bright start which saw Sharks spend the majority of the first quarter camped in the Valkyries 22m, it was Valkyries who were first off the mark when a turn over ball saw Bianca Blackburn score out wide. Sharks regrouped and immediately re-entered the Worcester half drawing number of penalties. Once within range, Mclean got Sharks on to the score board with an excellent penalty kick. Sustained Sharks pressure at the breakdown saw Worcester Valkyrie’s Courtney Gill sent to the sin bin. Sharks quickly took advantage of the extra player when a solid platform at the scrum gave good ball to the backs who executed well to put winger Bex Wilson over in the corner.

Half time: Worcester Valkyries 5 – 8 Sharks

Worcester Valkyries rang the changes at half time and opened the scoring just 3 minutes into the second half. Sharks responded immediately capitalising on Worcester indiscipline with a kick deep into the Worcester half. A well executed driven lineout saw Sharks march over the line and scrum half La Toya Mason dot the ball down! Worcester ramped up their attack from this point on and some passive Sharks defence saw a raft of scores in the the final quarter of the game. Sharks fought hard to make scrambling tackles and finished the game on the front foot pressing hard at the Worcester defence. A last ditch chip and chase from Mclean almost came off for Centre George Roberts but possession fell to Valkyries who kicked the ball out to close the game.
