Plymouth Albion 36-24 Mowden Park

Tom Bulmer6 Nov 2022 - 10:20

DMP come away empty handed despite late comeback at Brickfields.

Mowden enjoyed the best of the opening stages, and took the lead through a Matt Minogue penalty after Plymouth had strayed offside. The hosts then showed the strength of their driving maul, crossing on 15 minutes having been held up over the line at the first attempt. DMP responded well, and the home side were reduced to 14 men as captain Herbie Stupple was shown yellow after repeated infringements. A quick tap from the resulting penalty saw Will Hardwick find Morgan Passman, with the winger diving over from close range. Mowden were unable to take further advantage of their extra man, however, as Seta Raumakita dived over after a break from the Plymouth fullback. Stupple returned in time for Plymouth's third try on the eve of half time, as the driving maul paid dividends again to take the score to 19-10 at the break.

Plymouth's purple patch continued in the second half, as Jeremy To'a crossed for the bonus point try shortly after the interval. Penalties against DMP began to rack up, and a penalty try followed as Yaree Fantini was sent to the bin for collapsing a maul. A Tom Putt penalty then made it 29 unanswered points for Albion, as the hosts looked like running away with the game. Once again though Mowden showed their fighting spirit, and came close to snatching a bonus point at the death. First Henry Hadfield dived over under the posts after a well-timed pass from Ali Ledingham, with Ledingham converting to make it 36-17 with minutes remaining. A third try followed soon after when Passman sprinted clear from half way, but there was no time for a fourth and Mowden failed to take points from a game for just the second time this season.

Mowden now return to the Arena on Saturday as they take on Taunton Titans on Armed Forces Day.
