Ian Burmeister signs up for 2022/23

Ahead of the upcoming National One season, DMP are delighted to announce the signing of Ian Burmeister. The second row joins the club from New Zealand side Te Puke, having previously represented Manawatu Academy and Development sides. Ahead of joining up with his new teammates, the 24 year-old commented: “I’m stoked to be joining DMP, and look forward to the challenges that come this season. I want to challenge myself in a new competition and enjoy my time with a great group and lads.”

Burmeister, who can cover both lock and back row, was involved in Inglewood’s 2021 Championship winning campaign. The 2021 season also saw the forward earn representative honours with Taranaki Trojans. Looking ahead to his latest challenge in the North East, he added: “I’m excited to get stuck in with a new team and set up for an exciting season ahead. My goal is to contribute to DMP achieving consistent good results through the season.”

The New Zealander brings further quality to the DMP pack, along with fellow new arrivals Yaree Fantini and Sam Kyle-Klay. Speaking about the latest addition to the squad, DMP Forwards Coach Joe Cain said: “We’re excited to add Ian to the squad this year. He’ll bring a huge level of work rate into the pack, and hopefully some real physicality. It will be good to see him pull on the DMP jersey and join up with the squad for pre-season shortly.”
