Darlington Mowden Park RFC are delighted to announce the re-signing of Shaun McCartney ahead of the upcoming National One season. The winger is fast approaching his 100th 1st XV cap for the club, currently sitting on 97 appearances after the 2019/20 season. Looking ahead to a return to rugby, McCartney commented: “Having a break away from rugby has been brilliant, but I’m ready to run around with my mates and score some tries with a smile on face!”

McCartney has been in prolific form in recent seasons, scoring 6 tries in just 4 appearances last season before work commitments cut the winger's campaign short, including a hat trick in the season opener against Richmond. Those tries took his tally to 47 in just 97 games since his debut against Stockport in 2010.

DMP Director of Rugby Garry Law was happy be retaining McCartney for another season: "Pleased to have Shaun back in the mix. His form at the start of season 2019/20 was the best I've ever seen him play. He is naturally a very big player and that size allied with a good dose of speed and agility is a potent combination. I'm very much looking forward to seeing Shaun smash into things and pick up where he left off this coming season!"
