Mowden end the season on a high after a bonus point win at the Arena!

A thrilling game at the Darlington Arena saw DMP finish the 2021/22 season with a high scoring win over Birmingham Moseley. There were 12 tries, 76 points and 6 cards in one of the most entertaining games of the season as both sides played open expansive rugby throughout.

Mowden started on the front foot and took the lead after Ollie Walker broke clear on the right wing, finding Euan McKirdy who in turn fed Callum Mackenzie to sprint over under the posts. Moseley soon levelled through hooker Jacobus Genade, before an unfortunate injury for back row Kailus Hutchinson - we wish him the very best with his recovery. Mowden crossed for their second soon after the game restarted, and it came in similar fashion to the first. Paul Jarvis made a break on the right, with McKirdy again finding the decisive pass to free Chris McTurk who dotted down under the posts. The third came from a touch of brilliance from Man of the Match Louie Johnson, who received the ball on half way before chipping ahead and outpacing the cover defence to gather and dive over in the corner. There was still time for Carl Guest to power over from a driving maul to give Mowden the bonus point try inside the first half. 26-7.

The second half was even more breathless than the first, with a wave of cards seeing both sides reduced in numbers. Moseley made a bright start, with replacement hooker Sam McNulty scoring their second try after sustained pressure on the Mowden line. They were soon reduced to 13 however, with tryscorer McNulty yellowed for not rolling away close to his own line and teammate Tom Benjamin for backchat to the referee. It didn't take Mowden long to capitalise, as Paul Jarvis finished well under pressure for DMP's fifth. A sixth followed soon after from Dave Fisher in the right corner, before Mowden themselves were reduced in numbers as Joe Craggs saw yellow for a no arms tackle. An eventful afternoon for Moseley fullback Benjamin saw him return from the bin to cross for Moseley's third soon after. A fourth yellow card of the half saw Frazier Kiff sent to the bin for the visitors after a high tackle on Shaun McCartney, and again Mowden were clinical as they scored a brace of tries. First Will Jones crossed in the corner after a well worked lineout, before Mackenzie dived over for his second late on. There was still time for the 5th and 6th cards of the half, as Benjamin saw his second yellow and then red for a late tackle in the build up to the Mackenzie try. Moseley kept pushing however, and they were rewarded late on with a four try bonus point courtesy of replacement Ethan Priest.

On behalf of everyone at the club, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us not only today but throughout the season. We hope you all have a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you all next season!
