Darlington Mowden Park face newly promoted Sale FC for the first time on Saturday at the Northern Echo Arena.

Sale Football Club were formed in 1861 by a group of cricketers from Sale CC, making them one of the oldest surviving rugby clubs in the UK. Sale FC have featured many prominent international and county players. Pat Davies became their first England international in 1927 and the 1930s saw an international backline of Hal Sever (England wing), Claude Davey and Wilf Wooller (Wales centres) and Ken Fyfe (Scotland wing). Fran Cotton, Steve Smith, Dewi Morris, Richard Trickey and Jason Robinson also played at Sale.

The North West side were promoted last season after finishing top of National 2 North, losing just 2 games all season. Sale have had a bright start to life in Nat 1, drawing their opening game 36-36 against Cambridge. They have scored freely so far this campaign, scoring 184 points - the second most in the league. This has seen them climb to 6th in the league table, just 2 points behind Mowden Park.
