Lithuanian International Re-Signs with Mowden Park for 2017/18

Ignas Darkintis has become the 13th player to commit to the club ahead of the 2017/18 season

Darlington Mowden Park have today announced the re-signing of Ignas Darkintis, who joins a burgeoning list of players already signed up for next season. The Lithuanian international has been an important part of the Mowden squad this year, making 15 appearances despite a number of mid-season injuries. DMP Director of Rugby Danny Brown was delighted to be keeping hold of yet another valuable player: “We’re delighted to re-sign Ignas. Following his first full season last year, he has added a lot of experience to the squad. Unfortunately he’s had a few injuries this season, but he’s come back strongly and we look forward to seeing his impact in our remaining games”

The 28 year-old has amassed 15 caps for his country, and has played club rugby in England, Sweden and Spain. Having joined the club in 2014, Darkintis was pleased to be extending his stay in Darlington: “I am excited to sign for the next season as club has retained some good players from this season so far. It will help to make our squad glue faster and hopefully to achieve good results in 17/18. This will be my 3rd year with the club and I’m really happy about it, I’ve managed to make some great friends here.”

Despite having a tough time with injuries this season, the prop was optimistic looking ahead: “I’ve had two injuries that have ruled me out this year. It’s never easy to be on the injury list and even harder to come back into a squad with lads playing so well. For the rest of the season I hope everyone, including our amazing supporters, enjoys our last 3 games and has a nice summer.”

With more announcements to come, fans can see Ignas and the rest of the players in action in Saturday’s game against Fylde.
