Defeat in Round 25 as Leicester take a bonus point win at Westleigh Park.

Leicester Lions clinched a vital win in their battle against relegation on Saturday, with DMP failing to take anything from their final away game of the season. There were only 7 points in it at the break, but 5 second half tries from the hosts took the game away from Garry Law's side.

Mowden had made a positive start, and enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges. They were unable to covert pressure into points though, and the Lions opened the scoring on 18 minutes from a driving maul. DMP hit back with a well taken try for Ben Frankland, but Leicester had the final say in the half when Nick Cairns finished well in the left corner. Half time score 12-5.

The second half again started with Mowden on the front foot, but penalties began to stack up against the visitors as Joe Patrick scored under the posts. Mowden were then reduced to 13 men as Garry Law and Yaree Fantini were shown yellow in quick succession. Leicester took full advantage with tries from Toby Cousins and Jamel Hamilton, and a further score from Dan Lewis took the result beyond any doubt. Nathan Greenwood sprinted in for a consolation try late on, before a second from Lewis rounded off a clinical display from the hosts.

Leicester now face a trip to Sale FC knowing a win would secure their National One status for next season, while Mowden return to the Arena as they take on champions Chinnor on Saturday 27th April. Tickets for our season finale are available to buy online by clicking here.
