Mowden end 2019 with a high scoring win at the Arena! (Match report attached)

Mowden racked up 14 tries in this demolition of visitors Hull Ionians, who were powerless to prevent the onslaught in a very one-sided game. It was all one-way traffic before oranges, with the visitors rarely gaining any possession, as Mowden imposed as dominant a performance as has been seen since occupying their Darlington Arena HQ.

Home winger Brandon ASHER-WOOD weighed in with seven tries of his own, in a Player of the Match performance, registering with four tries in the space of sixteen minutes in the first half.

As early as the first two minutes, it looked ominous for Ionians, as ASHER-WOOD broke through with ease for the first of his four first half scores.

Mowden suffered an early blow when prop Ignas DARKINTIS was forced from the field after a contact injury, forcing a re-shuffle in the home pack, but this didn’t affect Mowden’s impetus, as they tore into the opposition.

Mowden scored at regular intervals and in quick succession after that first strike, with full back Callum IRVINE, scrum half Euan McKIRDY, centre Ben FRANKLAND and flanker Daniel GRANGE also contributing a try a-piece in a one-sided first half, where fly half Warren SEALS added seven conversions.

With the score at the break at 59 – 0, the second half was eagerly anticipated by the home fans, whilst the Ionians faithful weren’t looking forward to the type of festive cheer that was possibly in store for their side from their hosts on resumption of play.

Hull started the second half with some intent, on the attack from the whistle, deservedly registering with their first points with a try courtesy of full back Lewis MINIKIN, with centre TITCHENER adding the conversion.

However, it was only a matter of time before Mowden resumed where they left off and that was as good as it got for Ionians, as Mowden began where they left off, scoring another five tries, two from ASHER-WOOD, another for GRANGE and two for mercurial winger Chris McTURK, who added two conversions, with another coming from IRVINE.

Not Ionians day, but all at DMPRFC wish them well for the rest of the season, in what seems an unenviable task of rescuing something from it, as they are a proud club, with some fantastic people in charge.

An emphatic win for Mowden though and a fantastic Christmas present for everyone connected with the club.
