Darlington Mowden Park U15’s took the trip over to Horden & Peterlee this weekend in the Plate Semi-Final. Having played Horden & Peterlee twice this season with a win for the hosts and a draw it was a chance for DMP to even things up. Once again, a warm welcome from the hosts as always played prelude to what was a cracking game of rugby between 2 evenly matched sides and a game which was played with intensity but in great spirit.
A quick start to the game from both sides, playing some great running rugby almost saw Jonny Moffat score from quick thinking at a breakdown, unfortunately it was that quick the ref couldn’t see it. DMP eventually opened the scoring after 10 minutes with a tap and go from Bruno Brown, which was well converted by Jonny Royle 7-0. In a very tight first 30 mins DMP defence held firm with some excellent tackling and defensive shape, that’s how the score remained until a strong scrum allowed Bruno to break off the back and score, again an excellent conversion from Jonny Royle 14-0.
The second half saw Horden & Peterlee pull a try back in a very well worked score using the width of the pitch 14-5. Alex carter was in superb form throughout and got his just reward in the second half with a strong carry from midfield breaking tackles on his way to the line, again converted by Jonny Royle 21-5. Ruben Brand showed his versatility by switching to the backs and having a great game, as did forwards Charlie Leggett and Samual Pattison. The front row worked tirelessly all morning to give a solid platform to the backs who got width on the ball to open space for Matty and Rhys on the wings.
A pick from the base of the scrum by Bruno saw him score in the corner for his 3rd of the afternoon. A tough conversion for Jonny Royle fell just shy of the posts. Final Score Horden & Peterlee 5 – 26 DMP.
It was great to have Joe Webster back in the mix and the lads enjoyed having him around, showing his skills and certainly hasn’t lost the dummy. Massive thank you to all players and parents once again and to Horden and Peterlee for being such great hosts.
On to the Final which will be against Billingham with the date still to be confirmed.
