Local duo sign up for 2023/24

Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce that Oscar Usher and Rory Forster have joined the club for the upcoming National One season. Both Barnard Castle School graduates have been training with the club’s 1st XV squad in recent weeks, and are available for selection this weekend as DMP travel to Hawick.

Oscar Usher, 19, joins having previously represented the Newcastle Falcons Academy. The second row adds further depth to the DMP pack, and Usher was looking forward to the challenge ahead: “I’m really looking forward to joining the club and getting into a fresh season with a new set of lads.”

Forwards Coach Joe Cain added: “Oscar has done well since joining DMP. He is young and keen to learn, and we’ve seen him progress nicely through pre-season. Really looking forward to seeing him play over the next few weeks and see what he can bring to the table.”

Rory Forster, 18, brings further options to Mowden’s back line having played both fly half and full back after coming through the club's junior section. Having previously represented North of England U18s, Forster was relishing the step up to senior rugby: “Transitioning from schoolboy rugby, I’m really excited for this new challenge. I’m looking forward to push for a shirt and learn from the talented lads around me.”

Director of Rugby Garry Law commented: “Rory is a young lad with plenty of potential. He has a very good skill set for his age and isn't afraid to get involved. Going to enjoy working on trying to develop his game further and hopefully seeing him feature throughout the season.”
