Goals from Ivan Toney and Sean Longstaff were enough to secure a 2-1 victory for Newcastle U23s on Monday Night. The visitors quickly took a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes, and could have extended it further from the penalty spot, but Darlo keeper Jameson denied Toney his second of the match. Martin Gray's men were back in the game before half time with a goal from one of their trialists, which saw them go into the break 2-1 down.

After a string of changes at half time, Darlington thought they had leveled from a free kick, which was eventually ruled out for offside. Despite some late pressure on the Newcastle goal, Peter Beardsley's side held on for a 2-1 victory. Darlington's Nathan Cartman was awarded Man of the Match honours.
