We are delighted to bring you all a number of positive updates regarding Darlington Mowden Park Rugby Club. We would like to recognise that it has been a while since the last update and hope to offer you all clarity and confidence in our plans moving forward. Your support as members over recent years has been invaluable, and we would like to sincerely thank you for your commitment both in the stands by way of supporting the players, financially through your membership fees, across the bar and emotionally by the ongoing words of encouragement. 

We are building a sustainable rugby club which offers a pathway for all our current minis and junior players. The commitment of our coaches and parents is one of our greatest assets and provides the foundation for us to build on, thank you. 

We have invested in our board to add diversity and further commercial accruement. To this effect, please can we introduce Neil Morris, Simon Rees and Ian Lane as our three new board members, who, alongside Richard Buckley (advisor to the board), will bring fresh perspectives to an already committed strategic team. We want to revitalise a rugby committee, to engage all sections of the club with the board, to ensure the wishes and feelings of all of you are represented. Sustainability is the key to our longevity. We are delighted that our commercial revenue streams are growing and looking increasingly positive. This has been achieved through commercial rental in the arena and surrounding land. We are speaking to a developer about a number of further options and look forward to bringing you further news. 

The arena will remain our home and we are looking forward to welcoming new partners along the next chapter of this journey. Our vision includes reaching out to other Tees Valley sporting organisations to offer a partnership approach to growing the arena. Meetings are taking place and further announcements will be made accordingly.

On the field, preparations for next season are looking excellent. We have retained a number of players and recruited some exciting new talent. We are building a powerful, athletic forward pack and exciting back line. Neil and Ritchie Young, along with Danny and Newts, have done a sterling job bringing excitement and Mowden spirit into pre-season training. We cannot wait to start the season and look forward to some belting home and away fixtures, including an increased number of Friday night fixtures.

We hope this gives you an insight into what’s been happening, both on and off the pitch. All the noise about rugby in the North East has left us with more questions than answers at times but we are confident that we have the talent on and off the pitch to deliver success on both stages.
