Honours even after a dramatic game at Volac Park!

Darlington Mowden Park extended their unbeaten run to 4 games after a closely fought game against Cambridge on Saturday. A late Will Jones try ensured Garry Law's side came home with 2 league points, and they were perhaps unlucky not to take more from the game after twice being held up over the line thanks to some brilliant defence from the hosts.

Mowden Park opened the scoring inside the opening 5 minutes with a well worked try from Chris McTurk. An attacking scrum had set a solid platform for Callum Mackenzie to pick a sharp line through the home defence, before the returning centre found McTurk on his outside for the opening try. Cambridge then levelled the scores with a try for hooker Ben Brownlie off the back of a driving maul on the 10 minute mark. A frenetic opening quarter saw chances for both sides, before Mowden restored their lead on the 22 minute mark. Playing with a penalty advantage the ball was spun wide to Morgan Passman, who broke a tackle before offloading to Liam Checkfield who dotted down under pressure. Seals converted to take the DMP lead to 7 points at the interval.

The hosts started the second half brightly, and levelled the scores once more with a well worked try for fly half Lawrence Rayner who converted his own score. A Warren Seals penalty edged DMP ahead for the third time, before Cambridge took the lead for the first time courtesy of a second try for Brownlie from another driving maul. Joe Craggs then came close to DMP's third try but was held up over the line, and Seals narrowed the gap to 1 with a penalty on the 70 minute mark. Cambridge looked to have sealed the win with just 6 minutes remaining, when a cruel bounce of the ball evaded the covering Oscar Yandall for Kwaku Asiedu to race away under the sticks. Rayner added the extras to take their lead to 8. Mowden responded brilliantly, working their way into Cambridge territory before Asiedu was sent to the bin for tackling Morgan Passman off the ball after a break from Grayson Maguire. Warren Seals was then held up over the line as Mowden came close again, before adding a penalty with just 90 seconds remaining to narrow the gap to 5. After safely gathering the restart, Mowden stayed patient and worked their way into the Cambridge half. With the clock well past 80, Mackenzie found Will Jones with a looping pass for the Welshman to dive over in the corner. With scores level, Seals' touchline conversion into the wind fell narrowly short.

Mowden can now enjoy a well earned weekend off, before they return to the Arena to take on Sale FC on Saturday 13th November.
