There's something good at Blaydon

There's something good at Blaydon
There’s something good at Blaydon Rugby Club if the visit of their Under 10s to Carmel on Sunday 13 Oct is a measure. Keith and his team brought all of rugby’s core values and more beside. The first game first half had our white team head to head with Blaydon while the Blues took to the field for the second half. We started well with a decent defensive line that held against a Blaydon attack that was led by Sparky and Micky. Our tackling was courageous but eventually Blaydon scored. We picked our selves up and Dylan Barton went through to even up the game. The lead seesawed between the teams throughout no one was sure of the score when the whistle went but we saw some good play and highlighted some areas for improvement. Picking up from the game we trained with Blaydon working on driving over when the ball was taken to ground. There was time for a second game which again was a close battle. It should be noted that Kieran Kelly scored his first try and George Hardy discovered his side step and snaked through to score too. At the end supporters, players and coaches had been so absorbed in each moment of rugby that no one can be sure of the final outcome. Better rugby surely the winner.

Brave tacking at Hollow Drift
Brave tacking at Hollow Drift on Sunday 27 Oct, against a big and well drilled Durham City, wasn’t enough to give us the possession needed to run in many tries. We were low on numbers as it was half term and fielded a combined white and blue team, who played 4 games against City’s various sides. We put in some huge personal efforts notably Jamie Reaves who’s play was exceptional. Jack Hornsby made a fantastic try saving tackle at full stretch bringing down a huge City player like a leopard taking out a water buffalo. Adam Tonkin, Alfie King and Rhys Kenworthy held their ground and bravely tackled allcomers. Oscar Black and Kieran Kelly showed their strength at one stage driving most of Durham’s players into touch. Mathew Race, Nick Mooj and Ben Lear all put in tackles that brought the pride of Durham down too. While George Hardy, Steph Kaufmann and Dylan Barton made some real inroads into their defense. However at the brakedown Durham were quicker to drive over and recycle the ball so we didn’t see as much of it as we could. We left Hollow Drift tired and wiser.

Cheers Simon
