Under 15 Girls back on track.....

DMP Girls Under-15s (aka the Piranhas) bounced back from defeat to Morpeth with an excellent win over a well organised Alnwick side, a result that puts the Piranha’s season back on track.
Aggressive defence, much improved organisation and excellent support play led to a hatful of running tries, several of them scored from distance. Jess Miller led the way with lots of tries (sorry, but we sort of lost count) with another 3 coming from Mickey Walsh and one each from Erin Alexander (thanks for playing in the backs!) and Megs Ryder.
The try of the game however came from Cassie Wilson, an excellent team try started in our own 22 by Alex with the ball passing to Jess, Megs, Lucy, Mickey and finally Cassie to touch down in the corner.
As soon as the game kicked off, strong tackling from Emma, Mickey and Pickles let Alnwick know they were in for a tough game. This continued throughout the game with Alnwick suffering a number of casualties (all accidental I hasten to add). Alex can count herself particularly unlucky as the referee chose to blow the whistle to allow an Alnwick player to receive medical attention, just as Alex was crossing the line for a try.
The Piranhas didn’t have it all their own way though, strong pressure down the left hand side leading to an excellent try for Alnwick. This seemed to give the home side confidence and they rallied, with lots of encouragement coming from the home support. Strong tackling and running from the Alnwick scrum half and Tash put the Piranhas under more pressure, until a turnover led to yet another breakaway try for Jess.
The Alnwick injuries eventually resulted in uncontested scrums, a shame for the Piranhas as Grace, Cassie, Mickey, Emma and Katie were dominating the scrums.
Well done to the whole team – you all played well and thoroughly deserved the win. Let’s keep it going!
Many thanks to Alnwick for a great game played in a great spirit, the referee for an excellent game and finally Evie - a player lent to us by Alnwick. Evie must be the smallest player we have ever had (her boots were size 1!), but she did really well and never let us down.
Player of the match Jess Miller
Joker of the match Grace Hodgkinson (who spent 10 minutes struggling to get into the reserves romper suit, only to have to take it off again after 10 seconds to come back into the game)
