Strong performance vs Billingham RUFC

On a chilly Sunday morning, Darlington Mowden Park U11s made the short trip to local opposition Billingham RUFC...................somewhat of a pleasant change after long treks to Consett and Bishop Auckland in previous weeks.

With great numbers again, DMP were able to field two teams. Thank you to the parents who confirm availability, it really makes Tony & the other coaches lives a little easier and ensures as much game time as possible for the players.

Both teams fresh from their 7s exploits the previous weekend and just missing out on the semi finals, were keen to right some wrongs. Unfortunately for Billingham they felt the full force of DMP’s frustration. With players themselves identifying what they needed to improve on; ball retention, attacking the space & tackling, it did not take long for DMP to find their form.

The games made for fantastic viewing for the DMP parents & coaches, with strong running, great support play and good tackling being shown by the whole DMP squad in both games. Some great trys were scored by DMP and it was the variety of how the trys were scored that was pleasing to see. A combination of team play and individual skill saw trys run in from all over the park. Both teams ran out comfortable winners against a very spirited and determined Billingham team.

At this age, it’s important players all round game is developed. So it was great to see potential fly halves clearing out a ruck and front row players making the final pass to score a try in the corner. The coaches certainly commented on how well the players are developing.

Thank you to Billingham RUFC for hosting the games and giving DMP some great games of rugby and for their hospitality after the game.

Also, thank you to the parents for their continued support and for their efforts in getting the players to away venues, hopefully the Home / Away ratio of games will even itself out once all teams are fully relocated to the Arena grounds.
