Encouraging performance

Mowden under 9's v West Hartlepool - result 6-6

This was a vast improvement from the boys last game against Durham City. The boys showed much better defence with some great tackles coming from Matthew, William, Brook and Regan. The side also benefited from some strong running from W Todd, Ben F, Jack R-K, Jack W and Lyle. Try scorers were Ben, Jack R-K, Jack W and a great hatrick for Toddy. The lads showed that they have a good team spirit and much better cohesiveness than previously. The only thing that let them down was concentration with West scoring 4 tries straight from kick-off.

Mowden under 9's v Rovers - result 4-3

Again this was another encouraging performance with some good link up play, particularly one try where we passed the ball up and down the line and finished by scoring in the corner. The strong running of W Todd resulted in two well taken tries and Lyle finishing a move with a great score in the corner. Good runs came from all the boys with some determined tackling from Jack R-K, Jack W, Ben, Lyle and Regan. Good link up play was also shown by Matt, William and Brook who also put in some "big hits" on the opposition's biggest player. This was a tight, hard-fought game with Rovers just pipping us 4-3. The boys did very well and enjoyed their rugby. They must remember to run straight, keep their position and pass when tackled. A much better performance - let's build on it!
