U9’s Match Report

This was the first match for our U9’s, not only for the season but also for full contact.
After some good training sessions the last few weeks, learning the new rules as well as how to tackle safely, our boys were ready!
The team spirit was high, more to do with how muddy they could get in the very wet and muddy conditions than anything else!
The match started very even to begin with, both sides tackling and passing well. Durham though with their greater experience of full contact started to dominate. Durham’s first try came after a few good passes which enabled one of their players to break through the Mowden line and score.
Mowden didn’t let that set them back and Brook, and the two Jacks got stuck in to the tackles with relish! Although the experienced Durham side scored 6 more times during the match the score could have been much greater if it wasn’t for the valiant effort and team work from Mowden. Our boys rose to the challenge of taking some whopping tackles from the Durham lot – some of them round the necks of our lads by the way! – and were rewarded with a try by Will Todd. This was a great team effort. Great passing and nifty footwork by all gave a well deserved try. Good pressure from Stephen, Reagan, Matthew and Ben kept Durham at bay. Despite Durham’s efforts to wipe out a few of our players with some meaty tackles bruised and injured Lyle, Will and a few others bravely carried on!
The final score was Durham 7 Mowden 1
The second match was much closer despite the incessant rain and slippery conditions. Durham put out a second team while our lads, still competing for the muddiest body, played on.

The winner of the muddiest body competition goes to...... to be decided by the parents ( who were up for the soggiest ever prize!)
