U12s Consett Festival Success

U12's Consett Festival - By Mark Piert.

The DMP U12's made the long journey to Consett RFC in order to take part in their festival. With rain and potentially snow forecast for the day and with emails being sent out with instructions to wrap up warm and bring a umbrella, what a surprise it was for the sun to be shining with a blue sky overhead. Some of the parents bravely attempted to wear short sleeve tops, but the the cries of 'its so cold in the shade' forced them to head back to their cars and get their fleeces and coats.

The U12's prior to the instruction of any the coach's quickly organised themselves into teams of 4 and began conducting warm up training. This was a delight to see happen as it showed how much the team has matured throughout the season and thanks go to everyone involved in organising this warm up session.

As this was a friendly festival, DMP U12's fielded two equal teams, taking turns playing on their respective pitches, however, this meant there was a lot of backwards and forwards by all those involved (Parents, Players and Coach's) in order to support the players. Thank you to everyone who stood on the side lines cheering on both teams.

DMP U12's started off strongly in the festival, however, after a number of silly errors, which was addressed during the team talks, both teams to their credit, raised their games and provided very stiff opposition to their opponents, showing them why DMP U12's are the County Cup Champions. All games were hard fought, but this allowed for some wonderful displays of rugby by both the backs and forwards resulting in numerous trys' being scored, one of which was from a kick, which bounced beautifully to be scooped up at speed and placed over there line. There were also some wonderful runs being created, in which the DMP U12's were not only attacking the spaces, but were looking for the off load to their support players. It was also a joy to see all teams involved in the festival forming player tunnels and clapping and cheering their opponents off the pitches.

Well done to everyone who scored trys today and to everyone who helped create these trys. Without the commitment of everyone working together as a team, DMP would not be as successful as they are.

Thank you to all the parents, supporters and players, who made the long journey to Consett and thanks to Consett for not only organising a wonderful festival but for organising the sunny skies.

With the Darlington Festival only a week away, signalling the end of another rugby year, we look forward to next season as the new U13's, knowing we are leaving the Mini's with our heads held high.
