County Cup Champions!

A local derby for the Durham u16s Cup Final saw two evenly matched teams battle it out to be named County Champions.

Although Mowden had a 15-0 lead at half time the game was much closer than the scoreline suggested.

Blaydon brought the score back to within a single score after just 10mins of the second half kicking off by scoring two quick tries.

Mowden gathered themselves together to put in a great defensive display to withhold continued Blaydon attack’s.

Once Mowden fought their way back into the Blaydon 22 they took their opportunity to grab another score.

Mowden then kicked a penalty with the final kick of the game to make it 23-14 to Mowden.

The game watched by a fantastic crowd was summed up by numerous neutrals as “one of the best age grade games of rugby they had seen. An absolute spectacle to watch!”

Two great clubs, playing rugby in good spirits and no doubt a healthy rivalry that will see them scrap it out for seasons to come!!
