DMP under 16 match report playing Durham away 12th November 2017

A big thank you to the Berry’s and White’s for the pre-match breakfast in readiness for the biggest test of the season….

The first half:
Pre-kick off both teams face off, DMP fuelled up and raring to go with determination to win written all over their faces.
From the start DMP chase the kick with huge hit going in from Innes Hill and setting the tone for the rest of the game. Scrum DMP all 8 drive hard against a strong Durham pack, the ball is moved quickly from 9 through to 12 demonstrating positive play from a really determined team. DMP pinning Durham back at their 22, the DMP forwards working hard through the phases with strong running from Matthew White, Innes hill & Will Hickerson to name a few. A ruck forms and Ben T delivers quick ball to Cameron Wrench to whip down the line for a try 5-0 DMP.
On the kick off Durham chase but the ball falls into the safe hands of Sam Berry followed by a strong attacking run. Both sets of forwards compete for possession, Durham claim the ball and manage to find a gap to break through to score and convert 5-7 Durham. DMP go straight back at Durham maintaining composure and building positive pressure through Harry Wilson, Matthew Beck and the forward pack working hard and forcing a penalty at the Durham 5m line. The ball goes to Joe Berry for his trade mark smashing into the opposition defensive line, the ball goes to Innes Hill who again forces the Durham defence backward, the ball finally shifts to Ezra L Blair to smash again to score. 10-7 DMP.
Soon after the kick off Durham are awarded a penalty and decide to kick for the points successfully 10-10 Game on.
A period of minutes go by both teams playing on full gas, DMP go on the attack through strong running from Will Thompson and Sol Kench who were today playing inside and outside centre and having a real impact. They ball goes into touch and the whistle blows for half time.
Jonathon Berry’s voice beginning to sound sore from all the encouragement!! what a first half.

Second half
At 10-10 and both teams realising the importance of the next score. DMP press forward through Will Todd and his direct attacking running. Phases of rugby are played out until Durham manage to steal the ball and press back forcing a penalty which they decide to kick but miss. DMP press up field finding themselves at the Durham 22 with a line out, Will Hickerson is accurate with his line out safely into the long reach of Matthew Beck setting up the platform for Sam Shanks, Innes Hill and Harry Wilson to hammer into the Durham defence, the ball goes to Joe Berry and the rest is history, try to DMP. 15-10 DMP.
On the kick, off Tom Nelson and Aaron Fernandes double up to make the hit and rip, the ball moves quickly to Sam shanks to reach over the line for the try and the conversion by Sam Berry 22-10 DMP.
DMP could smell the win and were awarded a penalty within kicking range, Sam Berry takes and scores. 25-10 DMP.
At this point in the game even coach big Dave Hill is looking Happy!! did anyone get a picture?
Durham put up a brave fight and with a flying run down the line run in for a try 25-15 DMP.
DMP wanting to close the game out with only 5 mins remaining push forward and are awarded a scrum at the Durham 22. Ben Turnbull and Innes Hill smartly peel off the back of the scrum and Innes with ball in hand smashes through the Durham defence for the try and converted by Sam Berry. Final score 32-15 to DMP.

A great win today which has come from a result of hard work and dedication from both the players and coaches not forgetting the very supportive parents.

Well done boys a win well deserved!!

All players, whether in the final squad or not to meet at DMP for 9am for a breakfast briefing. We will then leave to travel up to Durham at approximately 9:45am.
