DMP under 16 match report playing away to Billingham 22nd October 2017

The first half:
DMP line up eager to get started with Louie Groak chasing down his own kick off and scoring a try in the first few minutes of the game. Billingham respond quickly and press up to the DMP 22 forcing a penalty for holding on in the ruck. Billingham go over for a try and convert. 7-5 to Billingham.
DMP press forward and work through the phases until Billingham win a turn over and kick to clear their lines. DMP press once again and hold Billingham at their 22 until DMP were penalised for what looked from the side line to be good and aggressive counter rucking. Billingham break to score 12-5.

DMP forwards put the graft in with a good display of tackling and forward running continually managing to break through the first tackle. The game paused for a few minutes whilst Joe Berry ran to the side line for farther Jonathon Berry to fix his dislocated finger before eagerly resuming position. Eventually DMP force a penalty taken successfully from distance by Louie Groak. 12-8. From the kick off DMP are on the front foot through Sol Kench showing his pace and strength, chasing the kick and ripping the ball from the Billingham receiver to secure possession for DMP. A period of play lapses until Billingham manage to break and score. 17-8
DMP chase their kick off successfully once again and manage to move the ball quickly to open the overlap on the wing for Cameron B to score just before the half time whistle. 17-13.

Second half
On the kick off Billingham catch DMP asleep running in 2 consecutive tries within the first 7 minutes. At least 10 minutes of play goes by with no team looking like scoring. The strong winds continue to disrupt the game making it difficult to pass the ball with plenty of knock on’s and scrums. Billingham manage to force a penalty under the DMP cross bar for 3 points. 32-13.
DMP begin to move the ball out of the rucks at a faster pace and with a greater sense of urgency providing clean ball to the back line and with the platform to attack through Sam Berry to go over for a try. 32-18.
DMP try and close the deficit and again work through the phases forcing Billingham backwords. DMP move the ball with improved speed and accuracy eventually enabling Ezra L B to go over the try line for a score. The game finished 32-23.

Good effort in tough conditions “not only the wind”!!
Well done lads.
