U16s - Deja vu avec Darlo

The second time this season the boys were lining up at Blackwell Meadows, this time for a short notice fixture after the cancellation by Upper Eden.

For the first few minutes it appeared that old frailties had once again come back to haunt the boys with the score 0 - 7 in just over two minutes of the kick off, the opposition showing some good flowing rugby coupled with direct running having our boys turning back to face their own line. But in true DMP fashion the ship was steadied and the boys started to play their own game, the catalyst appearing to be the confidence gained from some try saving tackles and some powerful running from defence. As usual the likes of Josh B making good yardage whilst also putting in the tackles with a few of the other boys also doing much the same with the tackles. The remainder of the half was an even contest, our forwards with ball in hand making good ground as they went through the phases, but on occasion the basics once again let us down and the home team were able to steal the ball and take a scoring advantage. The score at half time seeing our neighbours 19 to the good.

The second half saw a re-shuffled team due to injuries but as usual the heart was still much in evidence. The boys unfortunately succumbed to their ten minute curse, another 7 points being added by the visitors within the first few minutes of the half. However once again the boys dug deep and still tried to keep going through the phases and to play rugby when they had the chance. Unfortunately the opposition added three more tries and a conversion. A spirited performance by the boys for the remainder of the half, but their opponents were able to come out on top.

A good game overall and congratulations to our opponents, the scoreline may be slightly flattering, the boys in blue and white definitely deserved to trouble the scoresheet.
