BCS 20 - Mowden 0. A score not reflective of a fantastic display of rugby from the Mowden boys.

Today saw Mowden U16’s take on the challenge of the well drilled Barney Boys and in the magnificent school grounds on a dull rainy day, the Mowden boys shone.
This fixture is a first for the U16’s and whilst up for the challenge I have to say I had mixed feelings of excitement and concerns over a possible sound thrashing prior to the game.

The game started at a blistering pace and intensity not previously encountered by Mowden.
However, our boys rose to the challenge and for the first half they matched and on occasions outplayed Barney, conceding only one try.

The first 20 minutes of the second half continued at the same pace with the majority of play in the Barney half but Barney’s continuous onslaught eventually got the better of the tired Mowden legs. In the latter part of the game Barney scored 3 further tries putting the end score at Mowden 0 – Barnard Castle School 20.

The score was not reflective of the game and Mowden held their heads high as they left the pitch having played like lions. I cannot single out any one player from the game as everybody who took to the pitch gave it their all.

The extract below was sent to us by Alan White (Mowden and BCS parent) and sums up well today’s achievement:

“There is an understanding with and expectation from the School that Pupils commit to Sporting fixtures, hence Nathan's appearance in an opposition shirt today. This meant that I watched the game with mixed feelings as I wanted both teams to win!
Make no mistake, BCS U'16's are a very good team and the fact that you competed with them and even bettered them in critical areas for periods of the game is testament to your commitment and talent. You gave BCS one of their hardest games of this season. You have every right to hold your heads high after today's fine performance. Well done to all.”
