U15s Harrogate Festival 2013

Well done to all the boys who played 3 very tough games in todays festival. I hope you all enjoyed playing them as much as I enjoyed watching them.

We were unfortunate to be drawn in a pool with Harrogate (the ultimate tournament winners) and Northern. Both are very good teams but our boys held their own and provided the spectators with an impressive display of rugby. Due to a few missing team members we had to shuffle positions of a few players but everyone stepped up to the challenge and just got on with the job in hand.

We were narrowly defeated 7-0 by Northern despite some excellent play and crunching tackles delivered by a determined Mowden team. If this game had been longer a win was easily in our reach.

Our second game against Harrogate was always going to be tough but the team all gave it their best and we walked away with a very respectable 17-0 loss. Liam Dent's performance in this game is worthy of a mention and undoubtedly assisted in preventing Harrogate scoring further. This is a massive improvement from previous tournaments where Harrogate have regularly scored 40+ points against us.

Our play off game was against a touring team from Scotland. This was another hard fought game but Mowden dominated the first half and Harry rewarded the efforts of the team by scoring a try. There were several more try scoring opportunities for Mowden but the Scots somehow just managed to prevent us crossing the line. The second half was more evenly matched as the Scots fought back but Mowden retained their 5 point lead and walked away with a victory.
