Mowden U14 set a high standard in their opening fixture

What an opening fixture. While Durham may have come under prepared, every single player who crossed the white line was committed. This was rugby at it’s finest with not a single weakness displayed by any player.
With the forwards winning so much ball and giving the scrum half plenty of space to use it, Mowden had the run of the play for the full game.
With Harry Parnaby opening the score with some good movement out to the wing, Mowden looked to have the measure of Durham, and with all players closing the doors with very few missed tackles, Durham would have to be on top of their game to beat Mowden.
John Allinson showed his flexibility by scoring two tries, one from the flanker position and one from the full back position. John you are a worry my boy …
Callum Sheridan played outstanding with big tackles and blocking becoming his trademark but his burst through to find no one in front of him bar a 40m sprint to the line was a joy to behold.
Robert Lawson was playing his usual quiet game, going into a maul and coming out with the ball … he never ceases to amaze.
Chris Cran seemed to enjoy being closer to the play at inside centre and his tackling and covering where exemplary.
Any forward could have been man of the match, but Cameron Fletcher seemed to be at the right place most of the time and just stole the honours.
Jonathan Horner, playing at stand off had a good game in the backs and stole the honours for the backs, although Chris / Matthew / JohnA were certainly very close runners up. Ciaron also seems to be getting the hang of scrum half and kept up with play. With the amount of ball the forwards made for us, tightening up the passing play is the next focus.
A fantastic performance capped by the clean sheet, which required some great tackling from the whole team, but for Durham’s resilience, this could have been 50-0, with a few players being stopped close to the line.
The team have certainly set a very high standard and if they play like this all season, then let no team stand between them …
