Whilst on the wrong end of the scoreline this was a good display in most areas against title chasing Morley.

Morley took an early lead after 6 mins after good work in the midfield led to a try in the corner by the Morley outside centre. Conversion missed, 5 - 0 to Morley. Mowden re-grouped and started to win the battle for territory. Howie Murray and Ralph Appleby took on the bulk of the carrying duties and Sam Errington pulled the strings well at fly half. After 32 mins the scores were levelled when Appleby crashed over from the back of a maul. Conversion missed, 5 - 5 game on! With the rain now pouring down and the surface becoming heavy it was Morley who regained the lead on the stroke of half time with a try by their left wing in the right hand corner from a well worked 1st phase strike move . Half time 12 - 5 to Morley.

The second half started badly. A turnover in midfield allowed Morley to move the ball quickly and a cross kick from the Morley fly half was collected easily by the right wing who strolled in to make the score 19 - 5 to Morley. At this point the Mowden players knew that they would need to dig deep - and that they did. The next 35 mins were played with great spirit and a try at the death would have been reward for the Mowden side.

A good game which was won by the side who made fewer mistakes. Morley will (in my opinion) go on to win the title and it will be totally desereved by Pete Seabourne and his team.

Good debuts were had by Sam Errington and Shaun McCarthy. The Mowden front row of Miller, Murray and Appleby battled hard and it was good to see Tom Wilkinson back in the side at No 8.

Bring on Penrith - our last home league game of the season.
