One of those ‘bad days at the office’ could be one way to describe proceedings at The Ferens Ground and home of Hull RFC for DMPRFC.

Even with a conversion kick to draw the game, connections knew it was not to be and consequently the ball struck the upright and veered wide, giving Hull RFC the victory.

With a 3 – 3 score line at oranges, perhaps there is no need to describe events of the first half. There was plenty of effort, but not much industry on the part of either side, as the game lacked pace and fluidity.

Tom HODGSON was successful with the three points for the visitors.

DMPRFC had relatively easy penalty chances to be on top early doors, but when these go begging, frustration sets in and they ended up forcing the game, with forward passes and silly penalties the result.

After the break, DMPRFC tried to change events with the introduction of key replacements, but early impetus was lost, as they were penalised heavily for scrum, ruck and maul infringements.

A Chris McTURK brace of tries, was a breath of fresh air to the game, as the elusive DMPRFC winger did well to squeeze into the same corner for both tries, one on 65 minutes, the other dead on full time.

But it was all ‘too little too late’ as they say, as although Hull RFC never looked like scoring a try, they had already notched up fifteen points from the trusty boot of their stand-off.

To Hull RFC’s credit, they defended very well and have plenty of the larger brand of individual in their forward pack to give most teams problems, possessing a good driving maul.

It was nice to see ex DMPRFC hooker Will Kay back playing again, even though it was for the opposition and we wish him and Hull RFC well in the future.

Good fortune from a league position perspective, apart from the league leaders Stourbridge, the other teams around the top lost (Hull Ionians at Stourbridge and Preston Grasshoppers at Otley) and with the Sheffield Tigers game at Leicester Lions postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, DMPRFC still occupy fourth position.
