A late Callum Mackenzie try secures a thrilling win at Billesley Common.

In a very close encounter at Birmingham Moseley’s Billingsley Commom HQ, DMPRFC emerged victors with a very late Callum MACKENZIE try, which broke the hearts of their hosts as the game looked to be heading for a rare draw, having levelled proceedings a couple of minutes earlier.

A try early doors from visiting winger Josh HALL, opened up the scoring after four minutes, racing away into the corner (0 – 5) and converted well from the touchline by fly half Warren SEALS. (0 – 7)

However, it wasn’t long before the home side scored their first try, when prop Jay Tyack barged over, (5 – 7), fly half James Williams missing the conversion.

SEALS was successful with a penalty for the visitors as the game opened up. (5 – 10)

Birmingham Moseley edged ahead via a penalty try, when DMPRFC pulled down a maul in the act of scoring and the official awarded a penalty try. (12 – 10)

At this point, home prop Fidler was sent to the ’sin-bin', during which time back came Mowden hooker Jordan POOLE crossing in heavy traffic (12 – 15), this time SEALS missing the extras.

The hosts’ scrum half Robert Lewis nipped in for Birmingham Moseley’s third (17 – 15), converted by Williams. (19 – 15)

As the pace of the game intensified, DMPRFC centre, in for the full 80-minutes since his comeback from serious leg injury bagged a try for the visitors (19 -20) and with SEALS converted (19 – 22), it was a slender lead that the visitors took into the changing room at oranges, after an entertaining first half of rugby.

With everything to play for, the action began with all haste, Williams kicked a penalty (22 – 22) and then the hosts winger Samuel Pointon breezed over for the first try of the second half (27 – 22), Williams converting (29 – 22).

In the time honoured fashion of the first half, DMPRFC replied, with scrum half Matt DUDMAN sniping over (29 – 27), SEALS again levelling the scores. (29 – 29)

DMPRFC flanker Joe DUFFY broke away for Mowden’s fifth try (29 – 34), SEALS conversion edging the visitors in front. (29 – 36)

Back came Birmingham Moseley and Pointon scored his second (34 – 36), Williams converting (36 – 36), which appeared ‘all she wrote’ as play entered injury time.

However, as the hosts appeared to settle for the draw, DMPRFC’s MACKENZIE had other ideas and broke away for the winning try (36 – 41), breaking home heats and taking North a welcome 5-point haul .
