DMP take maximum points from entertaining clash with Old Albanians.

DMPRFC exacted sweet revenge for their away encounter with Old Albanian RFC back in early October 2017, when a last minute penalty was the difference between the two sides in a 33 - 31 loss.

No doubt about the outcome of the return, as a dominant first half performance laid the foundation for an emphatic win for the hosts, scoring eight tries in the process.

Old Albanians contributed to the game and were worth their try bonus point, which will hopefully contribute to them extricating themselves from the drop zone and safety.

Five first half tries blew the visitors away and although the after oranges display didn't match the first forty for excitement, the three tries underlined the victory and were no less important.

After only a minute of play and DMPRFC had registered their first try. Full back Grant CONNON fielded a high, booming kick which set up an attack and quick hands from centre Warren SEALS found scrum half Matt DUDMAN, who bolted through the visitors defence for a score under the posts (5 - 0), SEALS assuredly converting from close range. (7 - 0)

Old Albanian responded and after pressurising the home line through a concerted effort from their forwards, they were rewarded when lock Ross Hamilton crashed over for the score (7 - 5) and although the conversion was missed from wide out, the visitors were back in the game straight away.

However, that was the closest they came to a rampant home side who rarely put a foot wrong for the next thirty minutes of the first half. In a display reminiscent of the historical rousing performances of the National League One promotion season, forwards and backs combined to thoroughly entertain the crowd in attendance, putting the result in no doubt.

Home wing Callum MACKENZIE was at his usual abrasive best when steamrollering over his opposite number to squeeze into the corner, (12 - 5) with SEALS accurately dissecting the uprights. (14 - 5)

Fly half Brett CONNON followed after some good forward pressure (19 - 5) and although SEALS missed the afters, the impetus in favour of the hosts was tangible.

A penalty awarded to DMPRFC was kicked to the corner, but as the visitors set for a catch and drive repelling effort, the ball was whisked out, then back in for a rampant Alfie BARRON to crash over the line, (24 - 5), SEALS converting (26 - 5).

Home scrum half Dudman latched on to a pass from flanker Joe CRAGGS who had made some impressive yards down the touchline, before offloading to DUDMAN who scored his second try just before oranges (31 - 5) and with the afters from SEALS (33 - 5), the officials whistle heralded the end of the half and a let up in the scoring for Old Albanians.

On resumption of play, it initially appeared as though the prolific scoring would continue, when Brett CONNON benefitted from some excellent touchline interplay between his brother Grant and wing Chris McTURK and from the resultant kick chase, Brett won the foot race to collect the ball for the score near the posts (38 - 5). SEALS converted (40 - 5) as the hosts itched to pull away even more.

However, as is often the case when the pedal should be well and truly pressed in a downward motion, a combination of replacement introductions and a spirited comeback from the visitors, the anticipated floodgates did not open and in the disruption, DMPRFC's heat was cooled somewhat by a two try salvo from Old Albanian RFC, when first wing Joe Bridger and then scrum half Morgan Thompson crossed, both tries being converted by fly half Bednall. (40 - 19)

The home side steadied any thoughts of a reversal as the game entered the last quarter, with another try for MACKENZIE and an individual effort from centre Ben FRANKLAND, one of which was converted by SEALS (52 - 19).

The visitors efforts until the final whistle were rewarded when scoring a bonus point try, centre Matthew Deane dotting down after some pick and drive efforts by his forward pack (52 - 22), Bednall adding the extras (52 - 24) and bringing the final whistle.

An assured performance from DMPRFC, as they endeavour to close the gap on Coventry RFC, with a tough trip to Old Elthamians next on the agenda.
