A second half comeback saw DMP salvage 2 losing bonus points against Esher

A poor first half from Mowden was littered with unforced errors and penalties which resulted in Mowden leaving themselves with too much work to do. Esher's winger opened the scoring after only 4 minutes, 7-0. Mowden managed to string multiple phases together, without giving away a penalty which eventually led to an excellent line from Grant Connon to score under the posts, converted by brother Brett Connon, 7-7. Not too long after Esher kicked to the corner, from another Mowden penalty, where their hooker scored from a catch and drive taking the score to 12-7. Another try for the home side as their winger went over in the corner, 19-7. Further infringements led to a sin binning in the 33rd minute for late tackle by Mowden's second-rower, Dan Preston-Routledge. 2 minutes before half-time Esher scored their 4th try ensuring at least 1 bonus point and taking the score to 26-7 at the break.

Mowden got the first points of the scored half after a well worked scrum move led to a break and support from Brandon Asher-Wood to dot down after 51 minutes, 26-12. However, a well defended period by Mowden in their own 22 could only lead to a counter attack from Esher and another score, 33-12. Fresh legs on for the travelling team provided the tempo Mowden needed. A sustained period of pressure was applied for the first time during the game to a comfortable home team. Scrum dominance for Mowden, on Esher's 5 meter line led to 3 scrum penalties and eventually the penalty try was awarded, 33-19. With Mowden's tails up, a final score came from Mowden's Joe Craggs, who bagged his first try of the season from short range after multiple phases, with the conversion added by Brett Connon, brought the score to 33-26. The fourth try and conversion meant Mowden were within 7 points which gave the away side 2 losing bonus points.

Mowden were definitely not at their best at the weekend and the men's side will be desperate to put things right this coming Saturday back at the Arena. They take on Rosslyn Park in a 2pm KO which is aligned with our very own forces day.
