Whilst Stockport will go on to win the league title, they had to fight really hard against a focussed Mowden side who can count themselves unlucky to come away only with a losing bonus point.
After 5 mins it looked like it would be a long day - 2 tries to Stockport and one converted - 12 nil!! This was the end of any one way traffic as Mowden dug deep and went on to score 16 points against a further 10 from Stockport.
The first points for Mowden came from the boot of Gavin Painter after 32mins, leaving the score line was 12 - 3 at half time. Mowden will be disapointed to have only come away with 3 points from the first half; with 5 attacking scrums in the Stockport 22 the lads would have expected more.
The second half saw an early penaly for Gavin Painter and after a further exchange of penalties the score line was 15 - 9 in favour of Stockport. Game on with 20 mins to go.
15 - 9 it remained until 3mins from time when after Mowden had done all the attacking 2 handling errors in midfield allowed Stockport to gain good field position and rumble over making it 22 - 9. With the next play and the last of the game Robin Eatough finished off an excellent team effort and the conversion from Gavin Painter made the final score 22 - 16.
As performances go this one was up their as one of the better ones - with slightly better execution when in the opposition 22 Mowden would have won the game. Credit to Stockport, they are a good side and their pack allows their backs to play with quick ball.
Good look next season Stockport - we will hopefully see you soon!!
